Social networking is going mobile

Categories: Development, Innovation, Social Web, Tech

Today I was thinking about a post that John Johnston recently posted on his blog.

If you don’t know him yet John is an Australian creative author of jjprojects, very active on Twitter and recently he also organized the first Sydney Twitter Meetup together with Cathy Edwards.

I think that Twitter meetups are a very interesting phenomenon and they actually are signal that show us the importance that social mobile networking is getting.

It’s fascinating thinking of people that meet in the real world thanks to Twitter. We could already think of Twitter as one of the first mobile social networks, actually so powerful to move and aggregate people also off-line.

If we add to this the potential of Facebook applications, iPhones and who knows what’s going to come up next (maybe GooglePhone?!), we can feel that the need of going mobile is rapidly increasing.

We are going mobile! The community goes to the ‘real world’! Mobile 2.0!

It’s actually funny because the more I think of this mobile social networking the more ideas and thoughts are coming up to my mind so I think that I’ll leave this post open by ending it here. You can feel free (and actually I invite you) to keep the conversation going on with comments or even better on Twitter and on John’s blog.

Thanks Andrea, Yes, I’ve had some valuable experiences using Twiiter, and I think mobile social networking is here to stay. I think we are only at the very beginning stages of something quite powerful, as far as mobile networking goes.

I’ve found that the larger my Twitter network becomes, the more value it holds. There are strong communities being formed on Twitter. I’ve met many new people on Twitter, and also met them face to face. I’ve formed some strong and lasting connections.

I’m now in the process of co-organising our next Sydney Tweetup, which looks like being bigger than the first. I’m looking forward to it :)

    Yes…it’s just the very beginning!

Here in Finland I met face to face some new people too thanks to Twitter. First contacts in the real world thanks to mobile social networking. Exciting!

I’m looking forward to see or better say ‘to follow’ the next Sydney Twitter Meetup!

Keep up the great Twitter scene there John!

I had an amazing Twitter meet-up experience at the Social Media Breakfast in Boston just over a month back.

It was my first social media event and I knew not one, not two… but over 15 people just from twitter alone. It was a surreal feeling, meeting someone, shaking their hand and knowing so much about them and what they do all day long… without having ever met them before.

    Hello Julia!

I heard about this Social Media Breakfast when Bryan Person posted about it. Also that was a good idea.

And judging from your feedback, it has been a nice social media event!
