Twitter Policy
Due to an increasing number of spammers and a number of other twitter related issues I created this policy which applies to me, my twitter account and who decides to connect with me on twitter.
My account on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/vascellari
I WILL BLOCK YOU IF:
- you start to follow me and then un-follow without telling me why you stopped following me (you can let me know via DM direct message or through a tweet @vascellari). Why? It’s simple. I spend time in going through all the request that I receive. I spend time in checking your profile, links, and tweets to understand who you are and if there’s value in connecting with you. So if I follow you back this means that I trust you. I trust the fact that you sincerely want to join the conversation with me. If you take my trust and you throw it away you don’t deserve it and so I’ll block you.
- you are spam. I don’t think I have to add nothing to this.
I FOLLOW YOU ONLY IF:
- after starting following me you send me a tweet @vascellari to let me know that you connected with me (this is because in my Twitter settings the ‘new follower’ email notifications are disabled).
- you talk about topics that I find interesting/related to what I do.
- I see meaning in your tweets.
I DON’T FOLLOW YOU IF:
- after starting following me you don’t send me a tweet @vascellari to let me know that you connected with me (this is because in my Twitter settings the ‘new follower’ email notifications are disabled).
- you don’t have a link in your Twitter sidebar that points to your blog, site, Facebook/Linkedin profile, somewhere I can find additional information about you.
- you don’t have information in your Bio on the Twitter sidebar.
- in addition to your usual tweets you don’t post interesting links, join the conversation with others through @ messages, RT valuable content.
I SUGGEST YOU TO:
- Again: grab my attention with @vascellari tweets in case I didn’t follow you back yet. I will notice you earlier and if you are an interesting person/brand I’ll follow you back immediately.
- be patient if you want to join the conversation with me. During certain periods I’m really busy, this means that I can’t always check on daily basis the new following notifications I receive. So if I’m not following you back immediately please wait, again if you are an interesting person/brand, I’ll follow you back as soon as possible.
I’m open to review this policy based on constructive criticism, suggestions, feedback.

That’s fine Andrea!! as you know I’ve adopted you policy months ago, I like it. Sometimes people follow you just to be followed back to increase the number of followers and become a race: who has more followers!
People should have to be interested really and dont expect being followed in few minutes.
have a nice day!
@Dixie: Hola! Yes I remember that you adopted a policy too
I definitely agree. Lots of people are now joining twitter but probably not all of them fully understand the dynamics behind twitterland.
I don’t like to set rules, but lately I really started to feel the need of share some guidelines on how and with who I prefer to connect and engage on twitter.
Thanks for your feedback,
Andrea
I have faced this problem. I have seen notification of followers in my email. But just because I haven’t followed them back in a day they unfollow.
@Arun: That’s exactly what I’ve been through too and that’s why I included it in my policy

Great! You forget: unfollow if too verbose

so far the only thing i have not needed to look into is the “block” thing, and i can’t think of anything i would add.
Thanks for taking the time to write this, so for now on i can just point people here
@Mike: I’m glad you found it helpful!
Hola !! Andrea ,
I recent got in twitter, i´m catching up fast as i can.
i want to tell you , that i found yours concepts and ideas of comunications and the way you manage them very interesting.
regards
@Ivo: Thanks and welcome to Twitter!
You are so right! That is exactly the way it should be in my opinion. Unfortunately many people are just in competition to find tricks for getting huge numbers of followers without sending any useful tweets. Their policy is to follow many people in order to have people following them back. Strangely there are people who just set up 2 tweets and have thousands of followers – and the best is: They are even proud of it!
@claudia: Thanks, I hope you found it helpful! It’s true, way too many people have just numbers in mind so they end up losing focus on the actual communication…
