[Case Study] Social Media in the Enterprise: Microsoft’s Academy Mobile
One company that I follow with interest is Microsoft (disclosure: iTive is partner of Microsoft). Last week I had the irresistible feeling of retweeting the the video that my friend Paolo Tosolini released about Microsoft’s Academy Mobile.
Academy Mobile is an amazing Microsoft internal social computing initiative that aims at creating a knowledge sharing environment through the use of audio and video podcasts.
This is a great example of Enterprise 2.0, during the last two years I kept an eye on this Microsoft initiative and I think they are getting it right. Since 2007 they have gone a long way, some numbers:
- Microsoft has 90.000 employees
- Academy Mobile has 250.000 downloads/year
- The Academy Mobile team won the Marketing Excellence 2008 Award in Digital Marketing for their innovative approach to providing a social media tool for the enterprise
- 9000 podcasts mostly user generated during the last 2 years (2007-2009)
Quite impressive isn’t it? It gets even more interesting knowing that the Academy Mobile software is available for free on http://pks.codeplex.com/ you just need Sharepoint 2007.
Paolo gave some insights also on ‘Podcast in a Box’ an equipment loaner program in exchange of user generated content, but I’ll share more about it in another post as soon as I’ll get more data, stats and info.
Meanwhile enjoy the video!
@tosolini: Paolo, thanks for the info provided and keep up the great work at Microsoft!
