Mindtrek - Highlights Day 1
Highlights from Mindtrek conference - day 1:
Open source - Fully integrated with business
- Nice presentation by Roberto Galoppini (InitMarketing)
- Martin Michlmar (Hewlett Packard) shared good insights about open source in organizations… I took tons of photos of his slides and the lost everything because of a C:13:01 error in my camera… grrrrr! Anyway…short recap: If you want to use open source, you need an open source strategy. You might use open source just for certain things but you need policies to manage questions / issues that will come up from within your organizations. Many companies don’t always have clear policies related to the use of open source. About internal use: keep in mind for what you will use open source (chat, email, etc.) and how you will implement it (depends about the risk that the organization is willing to take).
- Monty Widenius rocks! Sharp comments during today’s open-source sessions.
Platforms and services for mobile internet
Mikko Terho (Nokia - Vice President and Nokia Fellow. Technology Strategy and Architecture, Devices R&D). Here I lost couple of slides of his presentation (same C:13:01 error)..anyway…Nokia ‘apparently’ has a good relationship with developers so, keeping in mind few of the lastest comments & posts, I asked him what Nokia is planning to do in order to engage a better conversation also with the social media space (blogosphere, etc.). Well he made pretty strong statements by saying that, they have ‘robots’ or ‘computers’ trakcing conversation and that he is not even sure Nokia will ‘have to’ join the conversation… (I guess I was pretty unlucky because Nokia’s robots weren’t able to track the conversations on blog) or that Nokia doesn’t have resources dedicated especially to community dialogue… Worth reading the discussion around it on Jaiku (here and here). I love Nokia and I don’t think they are doing a bad job, I simply think Nokia could do much better (about the ‘how’…well they could get back in touch with me). Probably Mikko wasn’t the right person to ask info about this topic?! UPDATE: I was happy to meet people from Nokia in the discussion we had in Jaiku… they made Nokia’s presence more human. @Nokia: think about it!
